I'm noticing that people are having difficulty identifying the thesis. The thesis is the main argument, the central purpose of the paper. It is not a question or a general observation, it is something the author of the paper is trying to prove or demonstrate.
If you are not sure what the thesis is from reading the beginning of the paper, take a look at the conclusion of the paper. The author will almost certainly return to the main thesis in the last two or three paragraphs of the paper.
